It isn’t necessarily the toughest thing to have imagined the Boston Celtics getting into a 3-2 hole in the Eastern Conference semifinals given their post-All-Star break struggles in the regular season, but this feeling is unfamiliar.

Boston may not be ready for the 76ers led by reigning MVP Joel Embiid and revived former MVP James Harden — or, even worse perhaps, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla may not be ready for the moment. Thrown into the mix as a surprise interim head coach right before training camp, Mazzulla may have been handed an extension too soon before proving he can make adjustments in the tensest of postseason wars.

Given what is weighing on Boston’s ability to not regress as a team following the dismissal of Ime Udoka — mainly the prospect of Jaylen Brown finally escaping endless trade rumors and a city he isn’t exactly in love with — Game 6 feels massive. Can the Celtics force Game 7, or is an offseason of uncertainty imminent?
