Most crucial Boston Celtics X-factor to lift the Cs over the cliff
By Rob Greene
Immediately following the gut-wrenching Finals loss, Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck gave Brad Stevens permission to spend whatever penny into the tax. The Celtics wanted to acquire the correct piece that could help eliminate the championship desperation and demons haunting them for what felt like forever.
The answer? Malcolm Brogdon.
A candidate for Sixth Man of the Year, the guard was clearly a seamless fit and beyond in his first regular season in Boston. Just as many suspected when the unthinkable acquisition went down last July.
Unthinkable because of Boston and Indiana’s separate trending directions to go with some financial stability. People around the Boston Celtics organization and fans may have imagined it over the years acknowledging his incredible humility and game. To envision the fit was cool, but no one ever viewed Brogdon as an actual pickup.
An Eastern Conference Executive was in an interview last summer. A sudden change of tone occurred when he was asked whether the former Pacers’ guard would propel the Celtics.
"“He will,” he said. “He’ll be good for them. Going to Boston, with strong people around him, unfortunately, yes, he’ll be good for them. I think he’s going to make them a lot better — which pisses me off.”"
When Brogdon was informed the move could be achievable, he showed no resistance. All to blend into the fitting culture and accomplish the main purpose that he has preached since he began wearing green.
Who would have thought that the potential final piece to the puzzle that the Boston Celtics were missing was Brogdon? The 30-year-old has been nothing short of a spectacular blend heroically adding a whole new ideology as another muscle to Boston’s offense.
