Boston Celtics Regular Season Report Card: Superstars shined, role players faltered
By Kelvin Mejia
Robert Williams Grade: C
The best ability is availability.
Robert Williams III missed a month and a half because of a procedure he did on his left knee. Then in March, he was out for two weeks because of a left hamstring injury. The Celtics were also managing the Timelord load management.
With 35 games under his belt, it is hard to give the “Time Lord” anything above a C. We will see if his body will be able to hold up for the playoffs.
Malcolm Brogdon Grade: B+
This proved to be a great trade for the Boston Celtics. Malcolm Brogdon is on track to win the Sixth Man of the Year. Brogdon shooting percentage went up as well as he shot 44% from three and 48% from the field.
Defensively Brogdon played well, and one of the stats showed his defensive win shares went up to 2.2. This was an all-around good year for Brogdon.
Derrick White Grade: A
The Celtics’ ironman Derrick White played all 82 games this season. In those 82 games, White was in the starting lineup 70 times.
White has been reliable all season, and at times it looks like he should have been in the starting lineup over Smart. There were games where White should have closed it out, but for some reason, the coach left him on the bench.
Coach Joe Mazzulla did come out on two occasions apologizing for not having White play in the 4th quarter.
White averaged 12 points per game this season, and he was shooting 46% from the field and 38% from the 3-point line.
