The All-NBA First Team vote of Jimmy Butler from ESPN’s Tim Bontemps baffled Boston Celtics analyst Dan Greenberg. Bontemps informed Max Kellerman on his show of his vote, which has an effect on both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in their next contract negotiations due to the CBA’s All-NBA tie-ins to contract extensions.

This comes less than a year after Bontemps voted for Jimmy Butler for the 2022 Eastern Conference Finals MVP:

The St. Bonaventure graduate and New York native has an interesting voting pattern that typically winds up working out well for Butler but comes at the expense of Tatum — and in this case, Brown as well. Weird.

Boston Celtics fans not happy with All-NBA snubs

With Brown’s future earnings with the Boston Celtics on the line, fans were not happy with Bontemps’ Butler vote:

Ultimately, voters have their own criteria, which makes it difficult to decipher bias from writer to writer. Not to mention, All-NBA awards likely mean less to most players than team success. But Brown having less incentive to sign with the Celtics and hosting a bidding war for his services is ultimately good for ratings.
