Boston Celtics analyst shuts down absurd Jaylen Brown trade rumor
Boston Celtics analyst Dan Greenberg of BSS was having none of Yahoo Sports reporter Jake Fischer’s suggestion that Damian Lillard — whose Trail Blazers shut him down for the 2022-23 season without a legitimate medical reason why — covets Jaylen Brown as a teammate in Portland.
“I’ll say this, Jaylen Brown is a player that Damian Lillard has had on his list,” Fisher told Andy Johnson and Brandon Sprague of ESPN 1080 The Fan in Oregon. Greenberg asked the legitimate question of who the Trail Blazers would include in a package for Brown with a sarcastic tone in response:
The Boston Celtics pass on the best Trail Blazers trade offer
NBA Analysis Network recently attempted to come up with a mock trade proposal the Boston Celtics would consider, and while the offer feels like one the Portland front office would concoct, it ultimately misses the mark.
N.A.N’s James Piercey made the case that Anfernee Simons is the kind of win-now player the Cs would likely seek in a Brown deal — while also pitching the idea of acquiring Shaedon Sharpe and those draft picks in the hopes of landing another win-now piece down the road.
“Anfernee Simons is already a win-now talent,” Piercey prefaced before saying, “He’s also a few years younger than Brown. With that said, he also isn’t impactful. Assuming that the Celtics want to remain in the title picture, they’d do poorly to flip Brown for Simons straight up. That’s not what’s happening here. Sharpe is another player with superstar potential. Moreover, this deal has the Celtics landed three first-round picks. Depending on how their season is going, they could flip Sharpe and these picks for another significant player at next year’s deadline.”
Brad Stevens has proven willing to acquire pieces and later move them (Daniel Theis says hello) but he likely wouldn’t look to bring on pieces with the purpose of later moving them. A stronger offer would be needed for Brown, who should only be on the table in a potential Luka Doncic trade if the Cs are keen on moving No. 7 this summer.
