Boston Celtics player who has earned 2023-24 role No. 3: Sam Hauser

The Boston Celtics signed Sam Hauser as an undrafted free agent following the 2021 NBA Draft. Since being a part of the Celtics, Hauser has done a great job developing his game in the G-League and working his way up to the main roster.

The 3-point specialist and his ability to knock down shots have found himself a role within the organization. Hauser is averaging 6.1 points per game, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 15.7 minutes per game this season. While shooting 45% from the floor and 41.8% from 3-point range, the Virginia alum has proven he has what it takes to contribute for an NBA team. Joe Mazzulla has taken notice of Hauser’s development as well. The second-year man has increased his minutes per game by 9.6 minutes this season.

The biggest knock on Hauser’s game has been his lack of presence as a defensive player. But since entering the league, the forward has improved tremendously with his perimeter defense and proven he’s not a lost cause on that end of the floor.

With Hauser’s play this season, the Celtics should prioritize developing Hauser’s game and bringing back the 25-year-old to be a rotational piece off the bench for next season.
