Jaylen Brown told reporters on March 21, following a 132-109 victory over the Kings in which the wing had 27 points, five rebounds, and four assists, that his comments featured in a piece by The Ringer regarding his Boston Celtics future were taken out of comments.

“I don’t know,” Brown originally told The Ringer’s Logan Murdock. “As long as I’m needed. It’s not up to me. We’ll see how they feel about me over time and I feel about them over time. Hopefully, whatever it is, it makes sense. But I will stay where I’m wanted. I will stay where I’m needed and treated correct.”

Brown pushed back on that mere hours after the piece was published (h/t The Athletic’s Jay King). “Sometimes when people write articles they get taken out of context especially when writers have their own agendas or whatever,” Brown said.

Jaylen Brown says he’ll comment on Boston Celtics future when he wants to

Brown’s definitive shutdown of talking about his Boston Celtics future will hopefully refocus the Boston and national media on only asking No. 7 questions that pertain to the franchise’s pursuit of Banner 18. They won’t, of course, because blockbuster NBA trades are like water to a fish for most media members, but it’s good Brown did so anyway.

Brown clarified what he wants to talk about moving forward, and clarified the only thing he believes about the Celtics.

“Right now the only thing I want to clarify is that the Celtics need to play better and win games,” Brown said. “If I want to say something in the future about the kind of things that have been floating around I will. I keep constant communication with my teammates and my organization and we’ve gotta have everybody on board if we want to do what we say we want to do.”

The 2023 offseason will go a long way in determining whether or not trade talks involving Brown’s name will stop. A championship would potentially shut it all down — though Brown not signing an extension until 2024, when he could make more, may just keep them alive in that case. An early postseason exit would douse gasoline on the fire.

Brown and the rest of the Celtics determine which path we’ll all be going down during the upcoming playoffs.
