3. Ricky Davis – Traded in 2006

You may laugh when you see Ricky Davis on this list but the man was an incredible offensive talent. And when the Boston Celtics gave up on him, he was in the midst of the best season of his career in which he was averaging 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists on 46 percent shooting from the field.

The Celtics traded Davis (to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Wally Szczerbiak, Michael Olowokandi, and Dwayne Jones and a future first-round NBA pick) when he was still 26 years old. There’s an argument to be made that he still had plenty of good basketball still in front of him and you can’t help but wonder if he never quite saw his ceiling because of all the instability that he had to undergo throughout the course of his career.

I’m not blaming the Celtics here because, at this point in his career, he had already been on three previous teams, but you can’t help but be a bit curious as to what could’ve been had Davis stayed on the Celtics.

We all know that Boston ended up winning a championship two years later. Maybe he evolves into playing a big part in the team’s championship run. Who knows.
