ESPN analyst Jalen Rose has come out and said what most inside Boston Celtics circles have been saying for a while now: trading Jaylen Brown for Kevin Durant would be a foolish move.

During the February 7 episode of “Get Up!”, Rose condemned the idea for being shortsighted given the injuries KD is currently facing — mainly a sprained MCL on the opposite leg he tore his Achilles in 2019 — and that’d it tear apart one of the best twosomes in the entire NBA, the “Jays.”

Here were Rose’s comments during ESPN’s morning show two days before the February 9 trade deadline (h/t Boston.com):

"“The Boston Celtics, they would be foolish to trade Jaylen Brown at this point of his career. And [to] break up Jayson Tatum and that duo that a lot of people have been clamoring for them to do the last few years for some odd reason, for Kevin Durant at this point of his career.”“I’m no fool. I know how dominant and great [Durant] is. But at his age, he’s dealt with some injuries over the last couple of years. You don’t trade Jaylen Brown for him if you’re the Celtics.”"

The Boston Celtics could make a bigger splash than expected, but not this big

Luckily Rose wasn’t taking the bait and seriously discussing a Boston Celtics swap to land Durant by the trade deadline. Brown and Jayson Tatum have taken down just about every boogeyman in the east — minus a fully healthy Milwaukee Bucks with Khris Middleton — and likely only need help around the edges to get over any hump.

While seeing either of those two and/or Marcus Smart, Robert Williams III, and Al Horford moved would be a massive shocker, it’s starting to appear that players previously thought to be untouchable are available. Grant Williams, assumed to have been due to be re-signed in restricted free agency, is surprisingly available and Payton Pritchard’s comments about playing time seem to leave his future hanging in the balance as well.

There’s not a massive splash set to take place at the deadline, but more fireworks than expected could be imminent with the C’s two best young assets on the trade block and Wyc Grousbeck giving the greenlight to go all in this season.
