Anthony Davis linked to the Boston Celtics by local radio station
Boston Celtics trade deadline plans are all but certain to be cautiously ambitious — though not according to 98.5 The Sports Hub’s James Stewart, the executive producer of the Felger & Mazz program.
Stewart recently came up with a list of potential trade targets from the Celtics, and while the list started off with an unlikely name in Jakob Poeltl, it got progressively more unhinged as it went on. Lower on the list is Immanuel Quickley, whose likely to be promoted to the starting lineup before getting traded, Damon Jones, who has been retired since 2009, and Anthony Davis.
While no context as to how Boston would go about a Davis trade was included, the Houdini is here to stomp out that idea with spiked boots. Jaylen Brown nor Jayson Tatum would be included in such a deal, and the Los Angeles Lakers are not taking a trade package starring Marcus Smart and Al Horford.
The Boston Celtics won’t be acquiring a starter
For those hoping to see the Boston Celtics trade for a needle-moving star, stop dreaming so big about that and save your gaudy visions for the current roster winning a title. Last season, the Cs had the best starting lineup, and in 2022-23, Derrick White has been a stellar stand-in for the first five.
As fun as it would be to envision a Poeltl swap going through — because let’s face it, nothing is fun about daydreaming about AD when there is a solidly zero percent chance he’ll end up in Boston — the current core is going to be what the front office is rolling with beyond the deadline.
Adding to that core using Payton Pritchard’s deal following his most recent comments is the largest splash that will be made. Maybe that’s not as splashy as some fans have come accustomed to in the Brad Stevens era, but that’s the reality.
And being in a position where trading away a reserve guard is a great reality to exist in.
