In terms of teams looking to bring Kelly Olynyk (back) into the fold, the Boston Celtics are not alone — with the Miami Heat also interested in reuniting with the 31-year-old Toronto native at the trade deadline.

Heavy’s Steve Bulpett revealed the latest tea about the C’s pursuit of Olynyk, who now plays for the Utah Jazz, aka the team that employs former Boston general manager Danny Ainge as its president.

Bulpett heard from a source close to the Heat organization that the two 2022 Eastern Conference finals opponents are both looking to land Olynyk to complement their already existing frontcourt depth:

"“A source close to the Heat tells Heavy Sports the club is interested in a reunion with Kelly Olynyk — and that Miami isn’t his only suitor. The Celtics are also said to be looking at the possibility of re-acquiring the 6-11 floor-spacing big man, who spent his first four NBA seasons in Boston.”"

Neither Boston Celtics nor Miami Heat expected to land Kelly Olynyk or Jakob Poeltl

As Bulpett relays from his unnamed source, not only is Olynyk unlikely to land with the Celtics or Heat, but so is San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl:

"“Olynyk is a guy they have interest in, but I doubt if that will happen. Both teams that have had Olynyk have interest in getting him back, but I don’t think that that’ll happen, just like I don’t think (a move for San Antonio’s Jakob) Poeltl will happen, either.”"

Poeltl would truly be a luxury for the Cs, and one that win-now franchises — which team co-owner Wyc Grousbeck has classified the 2022-23 team as — ambitiously look to land during a title hunt.

But neither he nor Olynyk’s price tag makes it likely the Boston Celtics will do what it takes to land them — instead setting up Brad Stevens and co. to pursue someone that fits into the Dennis Schroder TPE.

In that vein, Nick Richards or even a Boban Marjanovic type could be more realistic targets for the team to set its sights on.
