Boston Celtics: 3 Cs who’d have to be included in a Trae Young trade
Every big-name star who could potentially hit the trade market is being linked to the Boston Celtics at the moment. The Cs were given the third-best odds to land both DeMar DeRozan and Trae Young in the event the Chicago Bulls or Atlanta Hawks were to sell off their best players at the trade deadline or in the offseason.
The problem with pursuing either of those players? It’d take butchering their depth and giving up key pieces who helped make the Cs a title contender the past several offseasons following two conference finals appearances in three years and an NBA Finals appearance last June.
According to Chowder and Champions’ Tarringo Basile-vaughan only sees a deal happening if Jaylen Brown was involved — or alternatively if the C’s defensively dominant duo of Marcus Smart and Robert Williams were in the agreement.
Chemistry and continuity more important for Boston Celtics than splashy Trae Young acquisition
The team that makes an aggressive offer for Trae Young will probably be one that isn’t working at the moment — think the Eastern Conference’s No. 7 seed Miami Heat, or perhaps a team looking to separate from a crowded Western Conference playoff picture like the Dallas Mavericks or even the Phoenix Suns.
It’d make little sense for a team like the Boston Celtics to do so considering their place atop the league’s hierarchy right now. With the Golden State Warriors faltering without Steph Curry in the lineup, the Cs represent the most dangerous team that has been there and done that following their NBA Finals appearance last June and their current dominant run through the league.
Doing anything to risk the chemistry and continuity of the team for a one-way ball-dominant floor general who’d take the ball out of fan-favorite Marcus Smart’s hands, if he doesn’t outright replace him on the roster, isn’t consistent with the moves Brad Stevens has made thus far as Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations.
