Without interim head coach Joe Mazzulla, the Boston Celtics were able to get a stellar head coaching performance from the understudy to the understudy, Damon “Mighty Mouse” Stoudamire the past two games.

Boston downed the Los Angeles Clippers by six points just two days after blowing out the Houston Rockets by 24. Both games featured a covered Celtics spread and masterful rotations that maximized the returning Robert Williams III.

Because of Stoudamire’s success, Clippers head coach Ty Lue gave him an endorsement to land a job in the future during the post-game press conference on December 29 following the C’s 116-110 victory (h/t MassLive):

"“Damon deserves a head-coaching job in this league. He’s been around for a while, so just see what he had a chance to do against Houston the other night and now coaching again tonight, it’s just good to see. So, hopefully he can continue to keep getting this experience and he gets an opportunity soon.”"

Brad Stevens has hired several impressive coaches during Boston Celtics front office tenure

At this point, it has to be noted just how impressive of a job Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens has done hiring coaching personnel to replace his own regime to run the team from the X’s and O’s side of things.

Since Stevens slid into his front office role, he has landed a first-year head coach who led the Cs to an NBA Finals appearance (Ime Udoka), an interim head coach (Joe Mazzulla) to lead the team to the top of the league following a surprising and untimely suspension to the aforementioned first-year HC, and an emergency third-in-line understudy (Damon Stoudamire) who has been able to keep Boston looking dominant with the interim HC sitting at home sick — not to mention Will Hardy, who was hired as the Utah Jazz head coach this past offseason.

With this kind of top-down alignment and Stevens’ eyes for talent on the court and leading the charge on the sidelines, Boston should be in good hands for many years regardless of which stars choose to stick around in Beantown.
