The three-game losing streak that came on the heels of Robert Williams’ return to the Boston Celtics lineup now feels like ancient history. Boston excised those demons via consecutive double-digit victories over the Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks — the latter being a season-defining 21-point blowout of the team with the Association’s second-best record.

Now, with the sixth game of a seven-game homestand opening up the post-Christmas schedule, the Cs have been given a monster spread to overcome when they take on the last-place team in the Western Conference, the Houston Rockets, on Tuesday, December 27.

Houston is coming off a win over the Chicago Bulls yesterday, buoyed by 60 points from its backcourt pair of Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green and aided by Alperen Şengün’s 25-point double-double. That win over Chicago ended a five-game losing streak.

The Rockets are young and athletic, but rank in the bottom four in both offensive and defensive rating in 2022-23. Several players project to be potential All-Stars in the coming years — including Green, Şengün, and Jabari Smith Jr. — but as of now they face an uphill climb in just about every game they face.
