Blake Griffin, at the ripe age of 33, continues to amaze the Boston Celtics fans and his teammates by providing his usual bag of highlight play coupled with a reliable hand as a spot starter.

The six-foot-nine forward has started in seven of the Celts’ first 12 games in the 22-23 season. He is averaging 6.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game on a career-best 56.8% shooting from the floor including a stout 44% from 3-point range.

Those numbers rise when the big man sees starter-level minutes. Griffin averages nine points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game as a starter. He rarely turns the ball over in this role and remains one of the absolute best at taking charges.

This is the same Blake Griffin who was racking up DNPs in Brooklyn and was considered damaged goods by the end of his Detroit Pistons stint. Despite being a full bill of health last year, the Nets elected to bench the former All-Star towards the second half of the season.

The former 5x All-NBA team member only played in 56 of Brooklyn’s 82 games and was treated as a last resort in the playoffs only receiving minutes out of desperation. Many pondered the possibility of him going unsigned this past offseason, but as fate would have it he joins an elusive list of once notable stars to join the Boston Celtics towards the back end of their careers.

The list is quite lengthy and includes the likes of Shaquille O’Neal, Dominique Wilkins, Gary Payton, Pete Maravich, Michael Finley, and even Artis Gilmore. Every team needs their reliable vets and Blake Griffin has boosted morale in the locker room and stepped up when called upon even if playing time is not a nightly guarantee.

In the midst of Al Horford’s need to rest on back-to-backs and his recent COVID-19 bout, the big man has answered the call. Let’s just call the KIA jumper himself a revelation for Celtics fans.
