Analyst on Boston Celtics 2022 second rounder: ‘Brad doesn’t know how to miss’
Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens has been lauded plenty in the year-and-a-half he’s been leading the team’s front office, and Monday, December 12, was not a different day than just about the rest of them since his June 2021 hiring.
Stevens has been more known for his trade and free agency maneuvers — headlined by his re-acquisition of Al Horford during the 2021 offseason, the 2022 trade deadline addition of Derrick White, and the 2022 offseason landing of Malcolm Brogdon — than his draft prowess. He has only taken Juhann Begarin with the 45th pick of the 2021 NBA draft and JD Davison with the 53rd pick of the 2022 NBA draft, and the former hasn’t even played stateside during the regular season.
Davison, however, is playing well in the G-League for the Maine Celtics, averaging 14 points, 5.6 assists, and four rebounds as of this writing — though his efficiency (he currently has a 49/30/68 shooting slash) can improve. Overall, though, he is flashing the exact sort of skillset a recently drafted raw second-round pick should at this stage in his development.
Dan Greenberg of BSS saw Ballislife.com’s tweet sharing a highlight video of Davison’s Maine exploits and declared that Stevens simply doesn’t miss:
JD Davison is buried on the Boston Celtics depth chart until further notice
While many are clamoring to make a trade for Payton Pritchard, his presence provides much-needed depth — which is important with Malcolm Brogdon having a history of needing to take games off due to injuries.
It’s possible, if not overwhelmingly probable, that Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens feels the same way. Should Brogdon, Pritchard, and Derrick White all stick around past the trade deadline, JD Davison will be buried on the depth chart until further notice.
Right now, Davison has a total of nine minutes of floor-time at the pro level and has converted just one field goal. His reps will continue to come in the G-League unless injuries strike the backcourt in a major way.
