Officially half of all Boston Celtics losses during the 2022-23 season have come in overtime, though that’s not good news considering their latest 123-107 loss to the Golden State Warriors on December 10.

Typically, the Cs have used opponents to assert their own dominance following their NBA Finals downfall to the Dubs this past June. This time around, it was Golden State that used Boston as their catapult back to the top.

Thus far in 2022-23, Golden State has started slow. Having split their last four games, with losses to the likes of the Indiana Pacers and Utah Jazz, the Warriors appeared to be fodder for their 2022 Finals foe. Instead, it looks like the Dubs are very much in the title picture — being able to turn it on when needed. Dispatching of these Boston Celtics in the fashion they did is a message to the rest of the world is a scary message to the other 28 teams in the Association.

And it’s a rough lesson for a Cs squad that came into Saturday’s game thinking they could compete with anybody, even without their two starting bigs, Al Horford and Robert Williams III.

Steve Kerr emphasizes the importance of Warriors’ win over the Boston Celtics

It’s good to see that the Boston Celtics are a measuring stick to the point where the defending champions’ head coach is parading the win as a season turnaround.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr emphasized the importance of the victory during the postgame scrum:

"“Definitely,” Steve Kerr said when asked if this game felt any different than a regular-season game. “Crowd was excited, we were excited. I mean … just the feeling of going against the team that you just played in the Finals, and especially with the way they’ve played this year. They’ve just been so good and so dominant.”"

January 19, when the Warriors make the return trip to Boston, is a game circled on everyone’s calendar now. Time will tell if this win will truly catapult Golden State to where they need to be.
