The top team in the east (and the league) battles the top team in the west on Wednesday, December 7 as the Boston Celtics take on the Phoenix Suns in the third game of a six-game road trip for the Cs.

Boston comes in on the strength of consecutive victories over the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets following their fifth loss of the season last Friday against the Miami Heat — falling in overtime for the third time this season to the third team capable of beating them during the 2022-23 campaign.

Phoenix comes in having split their last four games, losing to the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. No loss is a bad one at this juncture, but Houston is nearly as bad as it gets in the conference.

Wednesday night, the two teams will square off for the first time in the 2022-23 season. The next time will be February 3 in Boston. The Suns are an elite two-way team, so this should be one of the biggest tests of the season, and it comes on the heels of an NBA Finals rematch on Saturday in the Bay Area.

Do the Suns pick off the Cs in Boston’s first mountain time zone game of the season? Or does Boston edge out Phoenix as a slim favorite after doing so on Monday north of the border? Hardwood Houdini has your odds and a prediction for the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors on ESPN, NBC Sports Boston, and Bally Sports Arizona (all odds provided by WynnBET):

Boston Celtics vs. Phoenix Suns odds, spread

The Celtics are 1.5-point favorites against the Suns on the road. The over/under for the game has been placed at 230.5 points.

Celtics vs. Suns prediction

Boston has proven hard to beat, and with Chris Paul’s status as questionable, the Cs seem as safe a bet as any in the league. Lay the point and a half and watch momentum get built before things get personal Saturday night against the Golden State Warriors.

Pick: Celtics -1.5 (-110)
