The Boston Celtics were able to rebound from 2 ugly losses, their first of the 2022-23 season, last week during their most recent outing at home against the Washington Wizards. Those losses came at the hands of a Chicago Bulls team and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Boston will have the chance to amend their most recent defeat to the Cavs last Friday at the T.D. Garden with a return trip to Cleveland Wednesday night. The Cs were down Grant Williams in the first meeting, while the Cavs were without Darius Garland and as of this writing, are questionable to get him back Wednesday.

Without Garland, Cleveland’s backcourt still flourished. De facto floor general Donovan Mitchell dropped his fourth 30-point game of the season — he dropped his fifth Sunday against the New York Knicks — and Caris LeVert combined with him to put up 82 points.

Considering the Cavs’ frontcourt duo of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley both went for double-doubles as well, it’s clear the Cs don’t match up perfectly without Robert Williams III in the lineup. He’ll hopefully be present in the third and fourth games in 2023.

Still, Boston seems to have figured out their 3-point shooting against the Wizards Sunday, converting at a shade under 44%. They shot a shade under 40% against the Cavaliers, showing consistency in a key element of their offense. Can they do it well enough to overcome the 5-1 Cavs?

Celtics vs. Cavaliers prediction

The Houdini took it on the chin thinking Boston would rebound from the Chicago loss with a win against the Cavs last Friday. Cleveland is clearly cohesive, and with all the talent they already had before they added 3x All-Star Donovan Mitchell, their ceiling raises every time they play.

Still, this team has to take some bumps, and lifting the burden the suspended Ime Udoka posed with his Brooklyn Nets hiring could unlock a loose team confident in who will lead them moving forward.

Take the points for Joe Mazzulla’s Boston Celtics.

Pick: Celtics -2 (-110)
