Former Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka was shockingly dismissed for the 2022-23 season, at least, on September 21 in a Woj bomb for the ages. Udoka violated the organization’s conduct guidelines by using crude language in his dialogue with a female subordinate prior to the start of an improper workplace relationship with the woman, per Adrian Wojnarowski’s September 30 update.

His immediate future is known; Udoka won’t be coaching the Celtics for the next year, and if Joe Mazzulla’s preseason debut is any indication, he may not ever get his role back as the lead locker-room voice in Boston.

But what about the long-term future of a head coach who, when finally given his chance after years of being an assistant coach on the San Antonio Spurs and Brooklyn Nets, delivered in every way imaginable?

According to Fastbreak’s Brett Siegel, not only is Udoka guaranteed to never coach the Boston Celtics, but he’ll also likely never receive a similar opportunity ever again given his recent transgressions:

"“Not only do many tend to believe that Udoka will never again coach for the Celtics, but league sources tell Fastbreak that he may never again be a head coach in the NBA.”"

Former Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka could get another opportunity if enough times passes and further details aren’t worse

From what we can surmise, former Boston Celtics Ime Udoka acted in an extremely inappropriate matter, but Adrian Wojnarowski’s initial reporting indicated that the relationship between Udoka and the female staffer was consensual.

If more details come out and reveal even more ugliness — using crude language in a professional setting is quite damning but perhaps not career-ending — Udoka is done. But if the details don’t indicate any criminal behavior, there’s likely a team out there that would roll the dice on a proven head coach who has only ever reached the NBA Finals in his career leading a team.
