Anthony Davis is an asset that has undeniably depreciated in value since his name was frequently linked to the Boston Celtics in 2019. Back then, the idea was to team him with Kyrie Irving to build a super-duo in Boston, but AD was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers instead and by the end of the 2019-20 season, he reached that status alongside LeBron James down in the Lake Buena Vista postseason bubble.

The Cs have since ascended to the Eastern Conference finals throne in 2021-22, the same season Davis and the Lakers missed the postseason–even missing the NBA Play-in–by finishing 11th in the west.

There is certainly no longer a need for Davis with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown becoming a star duo, Marcus Smart becoming the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year, and the Robert Williams/Al Horford duo proving to be the perfect panacea to the pivot questions facing the Celtics from 2019-2021 before Horford’s arrival.

That didn’t stop Fadeaway World from coming up with a mock trade proposal that brings Davis to the Boston Celtics for Brown and Smart while also adding a future first-round pick in 2027:

"Trade Package: Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart for Anthony Davis, 2027 First-Round Pick"

It’s not crazy, but this Anthony Davis-Boston Celtics trade proposal misses the mark

This deal is not one Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens would pull the trigger on due to the upward trajectory of Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart and the decline Anthony Davis has been on since the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA Championship in 2020.

With that said, Fadeaway World recognizing that the Cs are the ones giving up the most value in the deal, and thus the burden being on the Lakers to include a draft pick, makes this mock one that isn’t crazy — although it definitely does miss the mark.

Remember, LeBron James calls the shots in Tinseltown. If he wanted to trade Davis to maximize the final years of his Lakers stint/career, an AD trade would have already happened.
