#3 Danilo Gallinari’s Injury opens up an opportunity

The Boston Celtics recently lost Danilo Gallinari to a devastating torn meniscus injury while he playing for his country, Italy. The reported return-date is slated for sometime in November, but there is no definitive timetable for these types of injuries and how players respond in their rehab and treatment.

There has been no clear confirmation of what type of procedure he will undergo. This creates a decent-sized hole in the C’s rotation that must be filled. There is an argument to be made that Bruno Caboclo is one of the more comparable talents to fulfilling that task given his six-foot-nine frame, a smooth offensive game, and the ability to play multiple positions with his versatility.

As previously stared Caboclo has put on a noticeable amount of muscle since entering the association. Where he differs from Gallo is the clear defensive upside with the 26-year-old and just being an overall more refined athlete. This could be this young man’s golden opportunity to carve out a role for himself should he be on the roster after training camp — there are three plausible open roster spots and surely Caboclo is worthy of a role on this ball club.

The best stint for the Brazilian big man in his seven-year NBA career was a 34-game stint with the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2018-19 season where he started a career-high 19 games. He posted exceptional marks of 8.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and a block for good measure. Earlier in his career, there were struggles with efficiency and is very raw in terms of development and talent. At the ripe age of 26, maybe it will be the Boston Celtics where the corner turns.
