3 reasons why Bruno Caboclo could make the Boston Celtics roster
No. 2: Bruno Caboclo tore up the Summer League with the Utah Jazz
Bruno Caboclo is more hungry than he’s ever been and he put that on full display suiting up for the Utah Jazz in both Las Vegas and Salt Lake City Summer Leagues. In two games in Salt Lake City, he posted impressive averages of 16.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 2.5 blocks on 52% from the field. It is an incredibly small sample size, but in high-pressure games for someone with fading NBA aspirations, he delivered his stamp in these exhibitions.
In Las Vegas, the Brazilian product posted nine points and 6.3 rebounds per game on a scorching 73% from the floor in a three-game span. It came to much of a shock for many Jazz fans that Danny Ainge did not sign the former first-round pick to a training camp deal for more of a look.
The former Cs GM’s loss could be Brad Stevens and Boston Celtic’s gain as the upside is too good to not take a gamble. The big man showed an array of skills in these exhibitions as a capable plus defender, the extension of range extending beyond the three-point line, and a willing cutter off the ball.
One of the 26-year-old’s greatest strengths is his ability to finish at the rim with high efficiency and through contact. He has also shown to be a sneaky underrated passer on the interior. The makings of a high IQ by making the right read on offense.
The Celts could use him as a situational player for that backup five spot similar to how they used Daniel Theis. Someone who is playable if other bigs are in foul trouble or if injury strikes in the frontcourt.
