No. 1: He addresses multiple needs for the Boston Celtics

Bruno Caboclo is an incredibly raw player with the ability to guard up to three positions. That skillset alone makes him an asset in a defensive system with the tendency to switch one through five. He can hold his own against frontcourt opponents and he has put on muscle since 2014.

Caboclo has a knack for keeping up with fast perimeter players with his ability to move laterally defensively. Offensively, the Brazilian product provides good vertical spacing with his ability to rim runner and finish off the lob pass. He’s highly effective in the pick-and-roll and capable in the pick-and-pop.

Although, there is not much of a sample size to judge, it would appear Bruno is a low mistake player who does not get into foul trouble, makes his free throws at an 84% clip for his career, and does not give up possessions via the turnover.

Those were areas of weakness last season for this Boston Celtics team. We can point to a lack of being fundamentally strong as a top reason for losing in the NBA finals. The margin of error is that much smaller going up against a dynasty like the Golden State Warriors.

Fourth-quarter free throws need to be hit, possessions need to be ending in a score, and frustrating fouls need to be few and far between. Even if Bruno would not play a significant role on the team, having a fundamentally strong with these intangibles is an asset in the locker room and team practices.
