The Boston Celtics have been rather busy this offseason what with their free agency pursuits and trade market endeavors, but for some of the team’s former members, this offseason has been rather uneventful.

One past member in Dennis Schroder, who served as a mainstay within the C’s rotation during the first half of the 2021-22 campaign, has found himself struggling to find an employer for the second year in a row as it’s nearly two months into free agency and he remains unsigned.

However, recent rumblings suggest that his unemployment could soon be coming to an end.

Per NBA insider Marc Stein, it appears that the Los Angeles Lakers have some interest in inking the veteran scoring guard.

The long-time Boston Celtics rival is looking to revamp their rotation for this upcoming season after a truly lackluster campaign during the year prior where they went 33-49 and finished on the outside looking in on a playoff seeding.

Considering the fragility and uncertainty of their backcourt rotation (Russell Westbrook has been rumored to be on the chopping block seemingly all offseason long), adding on a player at the position with a decade’s worth of experience in this league could be a smart move for Rob Pelinka and co. to make.

Throughout his career, Schroder has suited up for five different ball clubs, one of which was actually the Lakers back in the 2020-21 campaign where he posted averages of 15.4 points, 5.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game.

Most recently we saw the German native splitting time both with the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets where, despite his inconsistent role, still provided some quality contributions, particularly with the C’s where he finished his tenure off averaging 14.4 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.5 rebounds on 35 percent shooting from distance.

His time in Boston ultimately came to an end at February’s trade deadline when he was shipped out to Houston in the deal that brought Daniel Theis back to Beantown.
