Boston Celtics player No. 2) Malcolm Brogdon

So this one may be a bit of a shock for some to see, as he hasn’t even stepped foot on the floor whilst donning green and white threads yet, but newcomer Malcolm Brogdon should absolutely be viewed as a long-term stay with this Boston Celtics team for quite a number of reasons.

A player that’s been high on many fans’ “dream targets” lists over the last several years–admittedly, including some of our own–, this summer Stevens pulled off a truly remarkable blockbuster that managed to not only acquire the talented guard but also offloaded a vast majority of mere bench fillers in the process.

Essentially brought on for pennies on the dollar, Brogdon now appears to be slated to take on either a high-usage sixth man role or even a starting gig at either backcourt position, both are situations where he’ll undoubtedly flourish in.

A legitimate two-way player with All-Star potential attached to his game, since 2019 the former second-round pick turned Rookie of the Year has found himself sporting averages of 18.9 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game on 35 percent shooting from deep.

Obviously, with Brogdon’s addition, there’s a popular notion going around that the C’s backcourt depth is overly stuffed while their frontcourt rotation, particularly at backup big man, is quite shallow, and, with this, the team may want to consider looking to exchange one of their several guard talents for a power forward/ center.

To be frank, we at the Houdini are not totally against this idea, as we believe that it could be a creative way for them to fill in some other holes within their rotation.

However, as of this writing, there is no reason for them to consider putting Brogdon on the table for such a deal, as his game seemingly fits Ime Udoka’s scheme and this current roster makeup brilliantly.

He’s a solid 3-point shooter (holds a 37 percent clip for his career), a quality distributor (boasts a 28.8 assist percentage over the last three seasons), and has already proven capable of playing incredibly well whilst running alongside two ball-dominating forwards (played with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton from 2016-19 and earned himself a lucrative $85 million deal as a result of his excellence).

Moving forward through this upcoming season, Malcolm Brogdon should be viewed as a major piece to this championship-aspiring core.
