Word on the street is, the Boston Celtics are officially inserting themselves into the Kevin Durant sweepstakes that has been fermenting for the better part of the past month.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the C’s have been in “regular contact” with the Brooklyn Nets regarding a potential blockbuster trade and, just the other day, things took a step further as The Athletic’s Shams Charania brought to light that Brad Stevens and co. recently offered up a package consisting of Jaylen Brown, Derrick White and an undisclosed draft pick for the megastar.

Despite the already monstrous proposal by the Celtics, however, Sean Marks and his staff have reportedly countered by asking for Brown, Marcus Smart, draft picks, and another rotational player.

For those of you who have been following our writings at the Houdini, you’re likely already aware of the fact that we truly believe that Boston should not pursue a deal involving the wing, for the asking price is simply just too high and, frankly, no matter how great of a player KD has proven to be, we’re not convinced that acquiring him at the expense of JB is the right move to make.

Because of this, we, along with a plethora of C’s fans, are under the impression that the franchise should take a step back from the Durant race.

Now, having said that, just because we think they should pull out of these specific pursuits, this is not to say that they shouldn’t look into making some more moves to help continue bolstering their roster’s talent pool–they should just look to make smaller moves or, in other words, ones that DO NOT see Jaylen Brown heading outbound.

Frankly, there are plenty of other fine talents found across the association that not only could pack a rather sizeable punch for this ball club but, also, could help inch them closer to attaining that highly coveted banner No. 18.

With this in mind, today we discuss 2 targets not named Kevin Durant that the Boston Celtics could look to acquire this offseason:
