Why Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari are perfect for Boston Celtics
The Danilo Gallinari effect on the Boston Celtics
Brad Steven’s second key signing was acquiring seasoned veteran and long-range shooter Danilo Gallinari.
The 6-10 Italian-native and former lottery pick spent the bulk of his career snapping twine on the Nuggets.
A career 38 percent 3-point shooter who’s eclipsed the 40 percent mark in three out of the last four years, Gallinari fills the role of the knock-down shooter that the Boston Celtics have been looking for.
In head coach Ime Udoka’s drive and kick style offense, Gallinari should have plenty of opportunities to show why the Celtics inked him to the two-year, $13.5 million contract.
Not only has Gallo proven that he can knock down shots from behind the ark over his career, but the big man is also crafty in the post, showing an ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim.
The veteran actually turned down more lucrative offers in order to play with the Celtics and compete for a chance to win his first ring.
On getting to play games at the TD Garden, Gallinari said:
"“I think about it. I had dreams about it, and I can’t wait until it’s reality and to start the season and experience that as a Boston Celtics player.”"
While Gallinari will be one of the few weak links in Udoka’s defensive system, his offensive value to Boston’s second unit as well as at the end of close games will prove to be invaluable.
In Brad Steven’s first year and change as Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations, he’s done a fantastic job of putting the team in the best possible position to compete for banner 18.
