3 last-chance free agents the Boston Celtics could consider signing
By Mark Nilon
The Boston Celtics may have gotten off to a hot start to the 2022 offseason what with the signing of Danilo Gallinari and the trade that brought Malcolm Brogdon to town, but there’s still plenty of work that could be done to help continue to improve the most recent NBA Finals runner up’s roster.
Sure, these aforementioned additions certainly possess the potential to have an all-out positive impact on the way the C’s perform this coming season, but, looking at the current state of the rotation, there are still a few holes remaining that could use some filling.
A simple method of going about trying to address these specific areas would be by means of scouring the free agency market for available talents.
Now, while the large chunk of the more desirable players have been snatched up by opposing clubs, looking at the remaining lot, there are still a decent number of intriguing names, some being seasoned veterans while others are simply fighting to keep their NBA dreams alive.
Today, we at HH focus on the latter category by discussing last-chance targets the Boston Celtics may want to consider signing:
Boston Celtics target No. 1) Tony Snell
Just recently, Ime Udoka made a statement suggesting that, of all the aspects of the roster that could still use for some fine-tuning, the wing spot and, more specifically, a shooter out on the wing would be an area that he would like to see addressed.
Considering the team’s limited amount of spending money at their disposal, should they wish to actually pursue someone of this ilk on the free agency market, veteran swingman Tony Snell could be an intriguing option to consider.
Coming in on his 10th season in the association, the lengthy wing may not be the sexiest of options out there but, when it comes to the bargain bin, there really aren’t many talents that will excite you by mere name-sake alone.
However, what is interesting about Snell, and why he could be a solid addition to Boston’s depth chart behind the likes of both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown is his ability to stroke the ball, particularly from deep.
Over the course of his career, the 30-year-old has managed to knock down nearly 730 3-pointers at a stellar conversion rate of 39 percent, even eclipsing the 40 percent mark on four separate occasions.
On top of his tremendous shooting skills, at 6-7 with a 7-0 wingspan, the veteran possesses the size to serve as a rather solid defensive presence, though, to be frank, one shouldn’t expect sensational efforts on this side of the ball but, rather, just enough to hold his own when needed.
At a minimal cost, being that Udoka is open to adding on more shooting to the rotation, Tony Snell could be a low-risk option worth pursuing.
