The offseason is in full swing and the Boston Celtics are taking full advantage of it after their tremendous, albeit a buck short finish to the 2021-22 campaign.
Since their Game 6 loss to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, the C’s have gone about and addressed several areas within their rotation that, in many ways, played a major role in their ultimate demise, as they brought aboard two talented veterans in Danilo Gallinari and Malcolm Brogdon to help with their second-unit shortcomings.
Now to the vast majority of fans and onlookers, the front office has done everything they should and could do to better position the club for a championship run as soon as next season.
However, we at HH are of the belief that even though Brad Stevens and co. have truly done a marvelous job thus far this summer, there are still a few more holes remaining within their rotation.
In an effort to plug said holes, there are several avenues that the team’s decisions makers can opt to embark on.
Easily the simplest route would be via the free agency market, for they could realistically add talent to a position of need without having to sacrifice anyone of note in return (unlike the trade market).
Though the bulk of top-notch players that were once available have been scooped up, there are still several talents on the market that could wind up improving Boston’s depth chart.
With this in mind, today we present the 3 best free agents remaining that the Celtics should look into targeting:
Boston Celtics free agent target No. 1) DeMarcus Cousins
From a sheer upside perspective, there aren’t many players that offer you as much as DeMarcus Cousins does.
No, we are not trying to insinuate that the C’s would be landing the All-NBA Boogie of old.
That said, even though he may not be the same player who was averaging 20+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 5+ assists, you better believe that his all-around skill set is still a part of his repertoire, and has even been showcased underratedly over the last couple of seasons.
Since returning back to on-court action after sitting out all of 2019-20 with an ACL tear, the big man has found himself boasting averages of 20.2 points, 13.5 boards, 3.8 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.1 blocks per 75 possessions whilst sporting a solid defensive rating of 106 along the way.
All this, coupled with his menacing 6-10, 269-pound frame to help improve the size of the frontcourt, could make him a tremendous add as a backup big behind Al Horford and Robert Williams III.
