Just like how their main squad did during the 2021-22 campaign, this Boston Celtics Summer League team has been on an absolute tear during their first three games of action.

After falling to the Miami Heat during their opening bout on July 9th by 10 points (78-88), the C’s have seemingly pulled one of their classic 180 turnarounds, as they’ve rattled off two consecutive hard-fought wins against the Milwaukee Bucks and, who can forget, the Golden State Warriors.

Now the ball club gears up for their fourth matchup of the tournament against the Memphis Grizzles (also 2-1), and the winner of the exhibition will then have a chance to take part in the final round where, in turn, they’ll be fighting for the Summer League Championship.

Of course, in order for them to reach the big stage, it will take some phenomenal efforts from this hungry, young roster and, in our opinion, there are 3 players, in particular, who will play major roles in this make-or-break outing:

Boston Celtics player No. 3) JD Davison

Considering the fact that he was the C’s lone draft pick from 2022, it’s safe to say that the bulk of attention has been directed towards rookie JD Davison during this year’s Summer League.

Through three games played, the guard has certainly shown off some impressive skills and natural instincts, as he’s served as a serviceable defender (leads the team with nearly two blocks per contest), an impressive rebounder, and an efficient facilitator.

However, outside of these aspects, the Alabama product has struggled mightily to find his shot (shooting just 25 percent from the floor) as he’s been putting up wild driving layups and hoisting uncomfortable jumpers, and has been a bit hard to watch when in possessions of the rock.

Though his jumper could wind up correcting itself, as simple jitters of playing in the Summer League could be a factor in his erratic scoring attempts, his handles are an aspect of his game that troubles us, as he looks extremely clunky and robotic when taking the ball up the court (especially when against a press defense) and, even with his seven assists average, he’s coughing up three turnovers per contest and, more often then not, they’ve been off of swipes from opponents.

With a few games now under his belt, hopefully, we’ll see a bit of progress and improvement in this aspect of his skillset.

In order to advance to the championship round, Boston could use for said improvements to shine through against Memphis.
