A multi-team Kevin Durant blockbuster the Boston Celtics must consider

The Boston Celtics may be having themselves quite an unbelievable start to the NBA Offseason after nabbing both Danilo Gallinari and Malcolm Brogdon on the first full day of NBA Free Agency (the former was signed on the open market while the latter was acquired via trade), but, unfortunately, these moves have been completely overshadowed by the news that’s been radiating out of Brooklyn.

Earlier this week it was reported that All-World Megastar, Kevin Durant has requested a trade from the Nets after two (technically three, though he sat out all of 2019-20) up-and-down seasons with the ball club.

With such a storyline, the NBA’s media circuit has been in an absolute frenzy ever since The Athletic’s Shams Charania broke the news Thursday afternoon, and, during this time span, all fans and pundits can do is think up trade scenarios involving the wing that we could potentially see as we progress forward throughout the summer.

Naturally, with any high-profile talent reportedly being on the block, we’ve seen Durant linked to the Boston Celtics, a high-profile team, on numerous occasions throughout the offseason thus far, and outlets have already gone about concocting trade packages to bring the future Hall of Famer over to eastern Massachusetts.

Of course, such a scenario would almost certainly include the vast majority of the core that clinched an NBA Finals berth this past year heading outbound (yes, Jaylen Brown would have to be included in the mix) which, to us at HH, is not the best course of action for this championship-aspiring team, no matter how great of a player KD is.

Having said that, just because we don’t necessarily believe Boston should look to acquire Durant, this is not to say that they shouldn’t be interested in taking part in a potential blockbuster as, say, a third-party team.

In fact, we at the Houdini strongly believe they should be looking to partake in a multi-team deal, and today we present to you one package that must be considered:

As rumor has it, the Suns are atop of Kevin Durant’s trade destinations wish list and, per sources, the feeling is mutual.

Here, we have a trade that would make this wish become a reality, as Phoenix winds up formulating a ferocious Big 3 consisting of the likes of Durant, Chris Paul, and Devin Booker.

Already we’ve seen the latter two make it all the way to the championship round whilst running alongside one another and even saw themselves go up 2-0 in their 2021 series. Unfortunately, they had no one to stop Giannis Antetokounmpo from then on out and, ultimately, fell to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games.

Kevin Durant could be that difference-maker to thrust the Suns over this hump, as he’s an NBA 75th Anneversery Team selection and a 2x NBA Finals MVP who, just last season, saw arguably the best season of his illustrious career, boasting averages of 29.9 points,7.4 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and just shy of a block per game on 51 percent shooting from the floor and 38 percent shooting from deep.

This tantalizing trio would easily be one of the top contenders to take home the Western Conference crown and, in turn, be viewed alongside the Boston Celtics as being a favorite to win take home the Larry O’Brien trophy come the climax of 2022-23.

For Brooklyn, they’d be setting up the groundworks for a rebuilding phase, albeit on quite an elevated ground floor.

Adding Deandre Ayton via sign-and-trade (the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft) and Mikal Bridges (the 10th overall pick from the 2018 NBA Draft) would give the Nets a tremendous young foundation to build around for the future.

Just this past season, Ayton (still only 23) posted tremendous averages of 17.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, and just shy of a block on 63 percent shooting from the floor and 37 percent shooting from deep while Bridges (25) posted 14.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.2 steals on 53 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent shooting from deep.

Acquiring both a big man and a wing that Sean Marks can go on to build around for the future, on top of a bevy of first-round draft picks, could set the franchise up quite nicely for a post-Durant phase.

As for the Boston Celtics, they finally get to utilize one of their lucrative TPE’s, as they find themselves absorbing the final year of his deal at a worth of $10.2 million.

A former shamrock who had some fine years donning green and white threads from 2014-17, the forward would once again be a great asset to help bolster the team’s rotation, especially behind the likes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

A solid 3-point shooter and a tough defender, Crowder would fit Ime Udoka’s scheme perfectly and, after the moves that were just made earlier this week, one could argue that now would be the perfect time to trade for someone like the journeyman wing.

This blockbuster trade would allow them to do exactly that.

Next. 3 C's that could be moved after wild start to free agency. dark
