2 realistic MLE candidates that have emerged for the Boston Celtics

MLE target for the Boston Celtics No. 2) Danilo Gallinari
Though we believe that Patty Mills could be a quality grab for the Boston Celtics this offseason with the use of the league’s MLE, this is heavily influenced by the fact that we at HH think that there’s a real possibility that the front office could wind up shopping current spark-plug guard, Payton Pritchard to better fill out their roster via trade.
Should they keep the soon-to-be third-year baller in tow (something we truly hope happens), it is the belief of many that this exception would be better spent on trying to strengthen their wing depth and Danilo Gallinari could wind up being a perfect option to consider targeting.
After being shipped out of Atlanta to San Antonio in the Dejounte Murray blockbuster earlier this week, the consensus belief is that the Spurs will go on to buy out the forward–after all, what does a rebuilding franchise need with a 33-year-old making north of $20 million anyway?
Should this happen, it’s all but guaranteed that the vast majority of contending ball clubs will be looking to vie for his services, and, by all means, the C’s must be one of them.
For years now, Boston has been searching for quality players to have backing up their star wings in Tatum and Brown and, despite their best efforts (utilizing two consecutive lottery selections on the position and acquiring Evan Fournier at last year’s trade deadline), they’ve ultimately fallen short of providing them with proper depth.
Signing Gallinari via the MLE could be a way to finally put an end to their unfortunate failures.
Throughout his 14-year NBA career, the forward has made a name for himself as being an immaculate role player and a highly efficient offensive commodity.
Just three years removed from averaging north of 18 points a night on 40.5 percent shooting from distance, the Italian-born baller is a proven scoring threat in this league who boasts career averages of 15.6 points on 38 percent shooting from deep.
Heck, even this past year, despite seeing the second-lowest attempts per game averages of his career, Gallo still managed to put up 17 points per 75 possessions on 38 percent shooting from beyond the arc while also showcasing his crafty inside-out game that’s been impressing fans and his respective employers for years.
A seasoned veteran with ample experience serving as a highly-efficient offensive role player and who has the ability to play both forward positions (something that could absolutely come in handy with this team), Danilo Gallinari could very well be one of the most ideal targets for the Boston Celtics this offseason.
