Boston Celtics lose out on dream target while LA inches closer to another title
For the better part of the past two years now, the bulk of trade talks amongst Boston Celtics nation has been geared around the likes of Washington Wizards star guard, Bradley Beal, somehow making his way to eastern Massachusetts to join forces with his long-time buddy, Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown to form one of the most ferocious offensive trios in the association today.
Whether one perceives such a trade concept as far-fetched or incredibly likely, the consensus opinion is that it’s a fun idea to ponder on.
Having said that, this monster proposal by Jason Reed of Lake Show Life would once and for all put these types of discussions to rest.
Here we see a 3-team deal taking place between the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, and Los Angeles Lakers.
Now, though what happens with Washington’s state of affairs may not have all that big of an impact on the C’s, as this trade is obviously one geared more towards their future endeavors rather than trying to achieve immediate success (although Russell Westbrook, despite having a putrid 2021-22, could still show-out in a lead role for a ball club), the other two organizations involved could certainly harsh Boston’s buzz after making it all the way to this year’s NBA Finals.
Brooklyn is obviously the team that first comes to mind in regard to this hypothetical affecting Boston moving forward, for, as stated earlier, they’re direct divisional rivals who already are viewed as having better odds than the shamrocks for taking home the conference crown this coming year.
Now, with this deal, the Nets would be swapping out a question-mark of a player in Irving for a perennial All-Star in Beal, one of the best scoring threats in the game today, and having him pair up alongside Kevin Durant, arguably the greatest scorer the league has ever seen.
These two ridiculously talented ballers running alongside the pass-first floor general in Simmons could make for arguably the most ferocious offensive squad heading into 2022-23 and, as a result, could thrust them right back up to being one of the top-2 favorites to win it all.
As for the Lakers, they’d be ridding themselves of Westbrook who, frankly, was never a good fit within a lineup already consisting of a ball-dominant player like LeBron James, and, instead, replacing him with Irving, someone who’s already won a title with the mega-star and who has gone to three total NBA Finals with him.
James’ proven track record when serving as the leader alongside Kyrie could keep the point guard and his shenanigans in check and, should Anthony Davis remain healthy and tap back into the player that landed him on the NBA’s 75th Anniversary team, Los Angeles could be well on their way towards beating the Boston Celtics to the punch of winning banner No. 18, thus taking sole claim of the title “winningest franchise in NBA history.”
This specific deal proposed by Reed has the makings of becoming an absolute horror show for the C’s.
