2 Kyrie Irving trades that would be disastrous for the Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics see two Eastern Conference foes get more ferocious

With any trade that the Brooklyn Nets hypothetically end up making involving Kyrie Irving, obviously, the objective for them is to get back as many quality pieces they can in order to continue on with their quest to attain the franchise’s first NBA title.

Assuming they have a healthy Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons on their side, all Sean Marks really should be looking to do is fill out the rest of the rotation with competent players who make little mistakes and can help complement the aforementioned star duo.

This trade proposed by Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report would seemingly accomplish exactly that, as he crafted a savvy deal between the Miami Heat and Brooklyn where Irving heads to South Beach and Kyle Lowry and Tyler Herro head to the borough.

The Nets bring on two high-impact commodities who would easily help better fill out the team’s lineup while also providing them with more offensive creation along the way, for they’d be receiving a career 14.8 point and 6.3 assist per game veteran and the reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year who just posted stellar averages of 20.7 points, five boards, and four assists.

In his piece, Hughes points to the closing lineup of Lowry, Herro, Joe Harris, Kevin Durant, and Ben Simmons as being one of the most interesting factors of this transaction, as he labeled this five-man unit as being legitimately ‘dangerous’, while the Finals experience that both Lowry (won title in 2019 with Toronto) and Herro (went to the championship-round in 2020) have would only go on to add another dimension to this already potentially lethal Nets squad.

Should they be able to re-sign Nic Claxton and make a few more depth-bolstering moves (particularly out on the wing) during the offseason, this roster would have very few holes within it heading into 2022-23 and, in turn, with Durant and Simmons leading the charge, they could comfortably be viewed as one of the top favorites to win the Eastern Conference crown which, already, would not be an ideal scenario for the Boston Celtics who just took home such a moniker this past season.

However, to make matters worse, obviously the Miami Heat would be finding themselves bringing on the biggest name being shuffled around in this ordeal in Irving to fill in at the one and complete the league’s newest Big 3 alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

The Heat have reached the Eastern Conference Finals in two of the last three seasons, advancing onto the championship round back in the bubble and bringing the Boston Celtics to seven hard-fought games just this past campaign whilst being far from 100 percent in the health department (Lowry had a nagging hamstring injury, Herro had a groin strain, Butler suffered a knee injury midway through the series but played through it).

By adding Irving, one of the most prolific players of all time, the Eastern Conference runner-ups would automatically become much more menacing from an up-front talent perspective, and, knowing how Pat Riley operates, it’s safe to say that even outside of their current reserves such as Duncan Robinson, Gabe Vincent, and Max Strus, this team could wind up adding several other quality role players to better fill-out their rotation by the end of the offseason (re-signing Victor Oladipo would be a huge plus).
