Seth Curry

Without a hint of hyperbole involved in this statement, the Houdini proudly proclaims that Seth Curry is easily the best-fitting gettable target for the Boston Celtics in any Daniel Theis trade arrangement.

Curry proved to be a glove fit with the Brooklyn Nets after being shipped to the ‘Big Apple’ in the Ben Simmons-James Harden trade. The younger brother of NBA Finals MVP Steph Curry was as complementary as can be alongside the star duo of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, and would add a similar element to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown if he ever made his way to Beantown.

Given Curry’s fit in Brooklyn, you may ask why the Nets would considering giving him up, especially with the non-shooting Ben Simmons’ imminent insertion into the lineup. You may also wonder why the Nets would engage the Celtics in trade conversations considering how that worked out when Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were famously flipped for the draft picks that would become Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum in 2016 and 2017.

Both are fair questions, but you need to consider the Nets’ current big man rotation in 2022-23. Day’Ron Sharpe is the only true center under contract, and Nicolas Claxton is a legitimate flight risk if a team throws him an unrealistic offer sheet for the current tax-paying Nets to match.

Theis, plus at least a future first-round pick, could be enough to pray Curry away on the last year of his deal. It’d be a gamble for Boston, but one that’d give them a super-sub or ideal starting 2-guard next to the ‘Jays’ and Marcus Smart.
