Boston Celtics key to victory No. 3: Win the third quarter or at least keep it close

Never has the phrase “third quarter avalanche” been used more times in a week. Every single chance Mike Breen, that’s the go-to phrase of his choosing. It is accurate as the Cs seem to get rained on pretty heavily returning from the halftime break.

Even with the Warriors being a +43 in the third quarter during the series, Boston holds the advantage. Although the Celtics have controlled virtually every other quarter, it would be nice to prevent another close call.

Golden State is not good in the fourth as they seemingly tire out down the stretch, perhaps being sapped of their energy in the third.

So for Game 4, if the C’s can have a strong third, it could boost them to success. It is very possible we see a change in lineup as Ime Udoka looks to get his squad going after the break. More Payton Pritchard may not be a bad idea as he can score buckets in bunches. Maybe we also see more of Grant Williams as well after a timely performance in Wednesday’s victory.

Whatever the game plan turns out to be, Boston must put their precious third quarter struggles behind them.
