3 things the Boston Celtics must improve upon in order to win NBA Finals
Boston Celtics adjustment No. 2) Stop missing easy layups
Missing an open layup seems to be a qualification if you want to be a member of the 2021-22 Boston Celtics.
To begin, I’ll say this: the C’s have been on a brutal playoff run with two straight rounds of physical teams who have forced seven games out of this team. However, whether the players are physically tired or they’re just mentally drained at some points in the game, ultimately it doesn’t matter.
They need to be better.
It’s hard to pinpoint one specific time in the Conference Finals where Boston missed an open lay-in for some easy points. Every single player on the roster seemingly missed a layup at least once that should have been made and, in a playoff run where every point matters, that hurts.
Jayson Tatum is a player that comes to mind because when he drives, yes he’s looking to score the layup, but he is also trying to create contact to get a defensive foul call on the opposition.
When he looks to create contact, he usually throws up an ill-advised layup with no intention of scoring, but, instead, just making it to the charity stripe.
Now, I’m not saying that he’s not getting his calls, because he does get the call sometimes. Other times, the refs miss the call (remember the infamous P.J. Tucker hack?!) or he just doesn’t create enough contact for a foul call on the defense.
Like I mentioned earlier, the Golden State defense is significantly better than Miami’s, so every point is going to matter during this series.
