Boston Celtics 2022 NBA Finals key matchup No. 2: Jayson Tatum vs. Andrew Wiggins

From the start of the season, Jayson Tatum has taken the NBA by storm. Capping off his stellar campaign, Tatum was named to the All-NBA First Team and received votes for All-Defensive first team.

The two-way star will likely do battle with Warriors wing Andrew Wiggins. The 2014 first overall pick has flourished in his first year in the Bay. The former Timberwolves wing was selected to his first-ever All-Star Game while averaging over 17 points per game.

On paper, Tatum has the edge in this matchup on both ends of the floor, but Wiggins is no slouch. His ability to attack the rack and hit triples makes him a very formidable tertiary option for the Warriors. Tatum may be asked to help on Thompson and Curry or even play big.

Boston cannot lose track of Wiggins on defense as he has the ability to score over 20 points on any given night. His perimeter defense is solid enough to where he could give Tatum some issues getting off clean looks.

The Smart vs. Curry matchup is going to be a grind and Tatum and Brown need to step up to help on Thompson.

Where the Celtics need to take advantage is on Wiggins and have Tatum attack the basket. Expect Boston to play through their guy and be aggressive in their pursuit of the basketball. They need to display their never-ending grit, and key in on these three matchups.

If the Cs can win these individual matchups, they may also win the NBA Finals.
