Boston Celtics PF Malik Fitts

Much of the same sentiment from Nik Stauskas’ case to be traded applies to the bouncy Malik Fitts, with the caveat that the latter is in just his second professional seasons after two stops in his collegiate career with USF and Saint Mary’s.

Unfortunately for the Rancho Cucamonga native, the NCAA’s transfer rules were not what they are today, and he had to sit out at the entire 2017-18 season due to not having immediate eligibility with his new school. Fitts was one of the unfortunate few who lost his senior year due to COVID-19 cancelling March Madness that ran out of eligibility after that. His Saint Mary’s Gaels were 26-8 and likely heading for an at-large bid when several conference tournaments were cancelled that second week in March 2020.

So far in the NBA, Fitts has been a journeyman, having played for three different teams, but two of them ended up making the conference finals at the end of that season. His presence clearly inspires winning–as does his 50% 3-point conversion rate–and if he can add a championship ring to his jewelry collection, he could have value beyond a non-guaranteed deal to be used in a salary-matching situation.
