Boston Celtics takeaway No. 3) Offensive rebounding (and officiating)

The one area the Boston Celtics struggled on Thursday was on the glass. Miami outrebounded the C’s by one, and won the offensive rebound battle 12 to seven. This game, the Heat had multiple second-chance opportunities, which they used to stay within relative striking distance in the first half.

Boston’s shooting barrage was too much for this discrepancy to make an impact, but it’s something to watch out for in future games. The likes of Bam Adebayo and P.J. Tucker are just too strong for Robert Williams to box out effectively.

Grant can hold up against those two down low, but doesn’t have the same length to grab the ball as it comes off the rim.

As long as Boston rebounds as a team, they should be alright.

Coach Ime Udoka cannot expect Rob to box out the opposing center on his own, as he gathers most of his rebounds through pure athleticism. Look for the Jays to focus more on the defensive glass in Game 3, trying to limit the Heat to one shot in their half-court offense.

As a side note, the Celtics’ complaining to the officials was kept to a minimum on the night. Between Tatum and Grant, Boston has two of the most frustrating players to watch in terms of their relationship with the officials (whether their complaints are warranted or not).

It seems like Tatum has finally realized his defensive miscues that often occur due to complaining about a call on the other end, and has hopefully eliminated it from this playoff run.

Win Game 3 on Saturday night and the Boston Celtics are in a great spot.
