Boston Celtics: 1 stud and 1 dud from C’s series clinching win over Bucks

Boston Celtics dud: Derrick White
Unlike Grant Williams, coming into Game 7 Derrick White was actually producing at some seriously effective rates, averaging 10.8 points, four rebounds, 2.8 assists, and just shy of both a steal and a block since Game 3 on 54 percent shooting from the floor and 38.5 percent shooting from deep.
Similar to the likes of Williams, White’s production took a drastic turn in Sunday’s bout against Milwaukee, albeit said turn, unfortunately, headed in a completely negative direction.
Once again serving as the first option coming off the bench within Ime Udoka’s rotation, the veteran guard logged 18 minutes of action and served as a major part of the team’s offensive scheme, as he hoisted up the fourth-most shot attempts and the third-most 3-pointers for Boston.
Sadly, this usage did not end up resulting in many positives for the Celtics, as he converted on just one of his shots on the night, which came in the final minute of the third quarter when the ball club already had a rather sizeable lead over the Bucks.
Now, granted, the 28-year-old did provide some solid defensive contributions for the C’s during his time on the floor, but his offensive woes were a troubling aspect of the team’s play, and specifically held them back at times throughout the game.
Luckily for him, and the team as a whole, everyone else around him was able to pick up the slack, so, in the end, these miss-fires (particularly that horrible decision he made to pass up a wide-open trey and drive into a waiting Brook Lopez) wound up not mattering all that much.
That said, in the upcoming Eastern Conference Finals, they’ll need Derrick White to tap back into the brand of production he was providing in the four games prior to Game 7 if he truly wishes to make a positive impact for his squad.
