Boston Celtics stud: Jayson Tatum

This was an easy choice to make since Jayson Tatum went full superstar mode and willed the Celtics to victory in the fourth quarter. He has struggled in this series relative to his lofty standards, and it felt like he needed to have an explosion like he did tonight if the Celtics were to force a Game 7.

The Cs superstar finished with a series-high 46 points, hauled in nine boards, and dished out four assists. He shot a solid 17/32 from the field and a blistering 7/15 from 3-point land. He scored in just about every way imaginable and put the Celtics on his back when they started to lose their grip on the game. Tatum was single-handedly shutting the door on every Bucks comeback attempt by reaching deep into his bag of tricks to keep his team ahead. He made contested threes, mid-range pull ups, hard drives to the basket, it didn’t matter what Milwaukee did because Tatum was unstoppable tonight.

This performance was not only his best in this series, but likely his best ever performance to date. Given the magnitude of this game against the reigning NBA champs, his mix of incredible offense, physical defense, and one absolutely crucial takeover in the fourth quarter, Tatum took the challenge head on and brought his team a W.

There are many players in this league who would fold under the pressure with their season on the line but Tatum is one of the few guys who have that unteachable skill, the ability to remain calm and perform in clutch situations. He not only invites the pressure but also thrives under it as well and tonight’s Game 6 victory is proof of that fact.

This was a performance for the ages and might just be the difference between a second-round exit and banner no. 18 for the storied franchise.
