Boston Celtics dud: Grant Williams

With the likes of Robert Williams III being out due to his questionable knee situation, Ime Udoka looked to Grant Williams to serve as his replacement within the starting lineup, slotting him in at the four and shimmying Big Al down to the five.

Now, while the move wound up working wonders for the latter, the third-year big struggled mightily on both ends of the floor, but especially on offense.

Far from his best performance of this year’s postseason, Williams finished the night with just nine points and four boards on an uninspiring 3-of-9 shooting from the floor and an even more unusual 1-of-5 shooting from deep.

On the defensive end, he was often found matched up against both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez, and, in these instances, both players seemingly couldn’t be stopped, which was especially annoying to see down the stretch when they needed to make stops.

Incredibly foul-happy (finished with four), inconsistent with his jumper (which, like his defense, was quite problematic in the second half), and was just dominated by his opponents, Grant Williams was an all-out negative for Boston during the exhibition (finished with the worst plus-minus rating on the team at -17).

Hopefully, back at TD Garden for Game 5, he can find himself having a bounce-back outing.

Next. 3 unsung heroes for the C's these playoffs. dark
