Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz came up with 1 new trade idea for every NBA team, and the only mock swap that involved the Boston Celtics was the one he had listed for the T.D. Garden residents.

To take it a step further, not a single member of the Cs was even involved in the aforementioned mock swap.

Swartz’s trade for Boston came in the form of a TPE and a future second-round draft pick (via the Portland Trail Blazers in 2023) being exchanged for Orlando Magic swingman Terrence Ross, a popular target for Brad Stevens and co. this past trade deadline.

Here’s the package Swartz came up with to land him:

"Boston Celtics Receive:SF Terrence RossOrlando Magic Receive:2023 second-round pick (via Portland Trail Blazers)$11.5 million trade exceptionThe Celtics ranked 26th overall in bench scoring this season (30.2 points per game), and could use a veteran wing who can spell Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown for small stretches. Enter Ross, who should be thrilled moving from the rebuilding Magic to a Boston squad with championship aspirations."

Why the Boston Celtics do it

If the Cs prove unable to provide enough firepower to hang with Milwaukee sans Khris Middleton in their current series, a drastic move might prove to be a foolish one. Instead, focusing on the fringes and fortifying the firepower along the perimeter could be the boost needed to beat the Bucks and any other contender that could prove to be a roadblock in 2022-23.

For a future second-round pick–one which could admittedly have value if the Portland Trail Blazers decide to rebuild and trade away Damian Lillard–Ross is worth rolling the dice and seeing if a small fix is all that’s necessary this summer.

Why the Orlando Magic do it

The Magic are still far away from where they need to be competitiveness-wise, so selling off veterans that survived this past trade deadline is on the menu in some form this coming offseason.

Ross is a fine starting point, especially for a draft pick that could hold value next year, when Orlando should begin to strive to step forward from the bottom of the Eastern Conference cellar.

Next. Should the Cs consider a Vucevic-Horford swap?. dark
