Boston Celtics dud: Jaylen Brown

Frankly, there’s an argument to be made for quite a number of players that they were deserving of being listed here in this section of today’s piece. The Boston Celtics played that poorly.

Having said that, to us at HH, we feel as though, of all the lackluster performances, none stood out more than Jaylen Brown‘s.

While on most occasions the 25-year-old looks the part of a true building block for a legitimate title-contending team, Sunday was simply not one of those days as he struggled in nearly all facets of the game, paving the way to his worst showing of the season from both an offensive and a defensive perspective.

Registering the second-most minutes on the C’s at 38 flat, Brown would log a wildly mediocre stat line of 12 points and nine rebounds on 30.8 percent shooting from the floor and 33.3 percent shooting from deep.

Now, the wing did go on to drop some nice dimes (four assists) and snatched away two steals during the contest, but these quality contributions were easily overshadowed by his heinous shooting splits, unnecessary foul trouble down the stretch, and unbelievably poor ball security which translated into an obscene seven turnovers.

Far too often we saw the All-Star’s shot attempts (took 13 on the day) fall a tad bit short, while he also seemed to struggle when it came to keeping up with his assignments on defense, leading us to believe that perhaps his hamstring could be bothering him more than we were initially led to believe.

Against this Bucks team, it’s obvious that the Boston Celtics are going to need all their players to perform at their absolute best in order to have a real chance of reaching their fourth Eastern Conference Finals in six years but, most importantly, they’re going to need the Jays to play at their highest of levels.

In Game 1, neither played up to their potential, but Brown was much farther away from doing so than Tatum.

This type of showing cannot resurface moving along in this series, otherwise, all hope of a round-three berth will be completely lost.
