Is it a failure if the Boston Celtics don’t win the 2022 NBA championship?

Back in December, most honest Boston Celtics fans (frankly, including myself) would have told you that they thought the season was on the verge of being over. Boasting a sub-.500 record and looking more like a team that had lost its desire to compete, the early season C’s were a complete and utter mess.

Flash forward to the present day and Boston has just swept the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the NBA playoffs and is looking primed for a title run.

This begs the question: Is it a failure if the Boston Celtics fail to win the 2022 NBA title?

The shamrocks have been the best team in basketball since January and sport the best defense in the NBA. They are also receiving excellent play from star forwards Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Tatum and Brown are currently the highest-scoring duo in the NBA playoffs with 52 points combined.

Tatum has especially taken his game to another level as he has taken the challenge of being a complete player. In the first round, Tatum averaged 29/4/7 while going up against the All-World Kevin Durant.

Tatum has established himself as the second-best two-way player in the NBA behind Giannis Antetokounmpo, which is why the Boston Celtics are primed for a title run.

They are also getting healthy at the right time, which is a beautiful sight for fans to see. Robert Williams and Jaylen Brown are ready for the stretch run, which leads some analysts like ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins to say that the Celtics are the best team in the NBA.

The health of the roster and the elite play of Tatum and Brown are coming together at the right time.

However, the most important reason why some fans may call this season a failure if the C’s fail to win a title is because of the wonderful path that has opened up for them.

The NBA playoffs could not have gotten off to a better start for the ball club when it comes to opponents, as they avoided Ben Simmons, they now avoid Khris Middleton in the second round, and they could potentially avoid Joel Embiid should both teams make it to the Eastern Conference Finals.

This is a great break for the Celtics, and they need to take advantage of it.

There is no excuse for them to lose to the Milwaukee Bucks without Khris Middleton, and they should be able to beat the Miami Heat or Philadelphia 76ers, especially if Embiid is out.

Also, I give them a real shot against the Phoenix Suns or Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals because they match up well with both teams.

The C’s have an excellent opportunity on their hands this postseason as banner 18 is within reach. The people who argue this season is a failure if Boston fails to win a title have a valid point as the path has opened up nicely for them.

We will ultimately see whether or not this squad live up to their championship expectations, but right now all focus should be on Giannis and the Bucks.
