Takeaway No. 1: Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown need to find their footing

Against the Brooklyn Nets, Jayson Tatum averaged 29.5 points on 46% shooting (42% from three) and Jaylen Brown averaged 22.5 points on 49% shooting (21% from the 3-point line). They were essentially unstoppable.

In Game 1 against Milwaukee, Tatum scored 21 points on 33% shooting, but about a quarter of his points came from the charity stripe. He struggled massively in the first half only shooting 3/10 from the field.

Jaylen Brown on the other hand, had 12 points on 31% shooting. It wasn’t only his scoring that was troubling though, Brown had seven turnovers, the most in the game out of any player on either team.

It’s obvious that this team is only going to go as far as Tatum and Brown bring them, and if they have another game like this, then they won’t be going any further than Game 4.

Both shot a ton of 3-pointers throughout the game. Tatum and Brown shot nine long-distance attempts each, only making four and three, respectively.

Tatum hadn’t shot that many 3-pointers since Game 3 in Brooklyn when he dropped 39 points on 13 long-range attempts but, even then, he only made four of those. Tatum is a much effective scorer when he drives into the paint, or even if he’s taking mid-range jumpers.

With JB, he hadn’t shot that many 3-point attempts since 3/30 against Miami, when he also had nine shot attempts. It may be his hamstring that was keeping him from attacking the basket which he does so well.

Everyone knows that the ‘Jays’ are both capable of exploding offensively. Hopefully, next game they come out firing.
