The Boston Celtics castaway
Romeo Langford
The former lottery pick for the Boston Celtics, Romeo Langford despite much early promise failed to deliver on those goods. The third-year player gave off this I don’t really care vibe as he never used his athleticism or length to his advantage to much of Celt’s fans’ disappointment.
Boston gave him a real solid look too as the forward averaged a career-high in minutes at 16.5 but his production did not increase. The Indiana product was still wildly inconsistent and the only praise I could give him is he did bring a consistent effort on defense.
On offense, he looked lost and would shy away from the moment. A player with his skill set and physical tools should have used those characteristics to be an aggressive driver who finished through contact. The spectacular was expected for a lottery-level talent and the mediocre was the output.
Season averages of 4.7 points and 2.4 rebounds on 43% shooting and just 35% from the 3-point line to go with a pedestrian 58% from the line. That level of efficiency put him way behind the 8-ball. Udoka gave him a look for his defense, but ultimately his offensive struggles caught up to him which led to a midseason departure via trade.
If you need any more proof that the Boston Celtics made the right call by including him as a throw-in on the Spurs trade, look no further than the fact that Popovich will hardly play the youngster. The forward only logged four games with San Antonio and racked up a large number of DNPs.
The shamrocks gave up on a talent that likely will not be in the league next season because at no level has he shown the drive needed to succeed at this level.
