Unfortunately, Boston Celtics fans, the positive injury update news provided by Brad Stevens regarding Robert Williams’ left knee meniscus tear doesn’t change much regarding the injury status of the ‘Time Lord’.

Williams is still expected to miss the first round of the NBA postseason with the injury that was suffered on March 27th in a win against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

That said, it was still encouraging to hear Stevens give a positive outlook on the injury. If anything, the initial timeline of a return for the second round of the postseason (should Boston make it) looks promising.

There’s no need to rush the ‘Time Lord’ back to action. The hope is that Al Horford and Grant Williams could suffice as the frontcourt starters in a first-round playoff series to make sure the big man heals his knee correctly.

As the Boston Celtics PBO noted, Robert Williams is a big part of the team’s future:

Boston Celtics HC Ime Udoka doesn’t expect Robert Williams in the first round

Ime Udoka is preparing for life without Robert Williams in the opening round of the Eastern Conference postseason:

"“We’re going in with the mindset that he won’t be there for the first round,” Udoka said.Still, Williams’ recovery has gone well to date, and he remained behind on the Celtics’ current road trip to rehab in Boston in an effort to “expedite the process,” per Udoka."

Perhaps more small-ball could be in line, otherwise Daniel Theis could get an expanded chance to prove himself as an emergency stand-in.
